Stefan Sagmeister

I like Stefan Sagmeisters work because each photo has a lot of depth. In the background is a normal person with text on their faces, either photo-shopped, make up or paint. The words represent something about their identity. For example the photo with the girl with the dark hair has 'Take It On' on her face in eyeliner or paint. That could mean that she is a shy person who wants to over come that and take on the world and be herself. The photo with the text in separate boxes that are photo-shopped on the text says 'She is a revolution until the end of time. She will go into the sea among the trees.' This could mean that she is also a shy and reserved girl who wants to adventure and live life to the full.

my response.
I used a picture of Kim Kardashian from the internet, I then used photo shop to create the image to the right. I researched Kim and found the most important facts about her that really represent her identity. For example I found out what she does for a living, her families names, her husband and child's date of birth, her birthday, her hometown and height. All these things are part of Kim, they all build up her personality and identity.
To create the text on her face I used the text option on photo shop. selected the area of which I wanted the fact. Once the text was in the right position for me I selected the layer and where it says 'Normal' with a drop down menu I selected 'Overlay' which makes the writing translucent so you can see Kim's face. Most of the words are translucent on her face to add a nice effect but also they are the more general facts that most people wouldn't know. The darker writing around the edges are the more basic facts that everyone would generally know about her. |
my response to stefan sagmeisters' work.
This homework I completed over the Easter Holidays. This work is in the style of Stefan Sagmeister. I took all of the pictures myself, some of the photos I have used before in my work however most of the images are new. With all the pictures, firstly I printed them all out and planned what I was going to do on them. I found quotes online that I thought fitted in with the persons identity. In a few pictures I used shapes on their faces, I used shapes along the contours of each face, on one I used colour and the other I used black and white. Most of the images have text either on the faces or around the head. All the quotes I have used represent something to do with their personality.
